The recent story in the media about a couple who own a luxury bed and breakfast in Cornwall and fell victim to a bogus Google review is a good example of an area which the search engine needs to address - and fast.
According to the owners, the fake review and one-star review has 'severely damaged' their bookings and the 'guest' never even stayed at the hotel.
Despite, however, repeated attempts to have it removed, Google has refused to remove it as it does not breach their guidelines. The star rating can be seen if users simply type the name of the hotel into Google. The only advice the search engine could give the couple was to ask friends and family to write reviews too and bump down the bad review.
