Google to start using HTTPS as a ‘very lightweight’ ranking signal

Google has confirmed this week that it is starting to use HTTPS as a ranking signal - stating that more secure websites will see its search rankings rewarded.

It is all part of the search engine giant's plan to make the internet more safe by ensuring websites that users access via Google are secure.

Over the 'last few months', Google has been running tests that take into account whether websites use HTTPS encryption by default and using it as a signal in their search algorithms.
